1. The Serb national Novak Djokovic wins Wimbledon by beating his opponent Swiss national Roger Federer. He wins his second championship and regained his place as the World No 1.

2. SBI enters the digital banking with sbiINTOUCH. Digital banking will include instant issuance of personalised debit cards created through an instant account opening kiosk and instant in-principle loan approval. These digital branches have smart ATMs with cash-in and cash-out facilities and integrated remote teller, remote express. The “remote express” which is manned from another location interacts with the customers through a computer network. You can open an account instantly using e-KYC. Digital banking will cut down on cost and time spent in bank branches.

3. Centre has decided to set up Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) project in Chhattisgarh, which was scrapped by previous government. Four UMPPs, Sasan in Madhya Pradesh, Mundra in Gujarat, Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Tilaiya in Jharkhand have been awarded to the identified developers so far.

4. A Committee headed by former RBI governor C Rangarajan was formed to review the Tendulkar Committee methodology for estimating poverty and clear the ambiguity over the number of poor in the country. It has said that the number of poor in India was much higher in 2011-12 at 29.5% of the population which means that 3 out of 10 persons are poor. Earlier Tendulkar committee gave poverty ratio as 21.5% for the year 2011-12.

5. Supreme Court ruled that Shariat courts, issuing fatwa and order against a person who has not submitted himself before it, has no sanction of law and has no legal status. The fatwas cannot be legally enforced by shariaat courts and becomes illegal if it infringes upon anyone’s fundamental rights.
