1. The Supreme Court directed States to instruct police officers not to make any arrests in dowry harassment offences without first ascertaining viability under parameters laid down in Section 41, Code of Criminal Procedure. It advised against automatic arrest under Section 498A.
2. Centre has accepted the industry’s demand on the simplification of the process for the extensions of industrial licenses. It is the first step towards ease of doing business in India. It extended the period of validity of industrial licenses from two years to three years and relaxed the requirement for companies to go to the Licensing Committee for the extensions.
3. Reliance Media Works (RMW) , global film and media services business of Reliance Capital is to be merged with Prime Focus Ltd. (PFL), a global media and entertainment industry services leader. It will be the world’s largest and most integrated media services group, having facilities at 20 locations with 5,500 people.
4. National Crime Records Bureau data for 2013 shows that road accidents are the biggest non-disease killers of men in the country and suicides the biggest killers of women. The NCRB data is a compilation of all deaths reported to the police in that year excluding the deaths caused by diseases.
5. Facebook had manipulated the news feeds of over half a million randomly selected users to change the number of positive and negative posts they saw. It was part of a psychological study to see how emotions can be spread on social media. It is now being probed by UK committee on the grounds of breaching privacy.
6. Facebook launches 'missed call ads' in India. It allows mobile phone users to click a button that calls brand advertiser and hangs up, then receives a return call. The return call will have pre recorded audio messages about the brand advertised.
