01. Vijaya Bank approaches Government for Capital Infusion: Vijaya bank has approached the Government for capital infusion of Rs.5000 crores. It would also issue Tier 2 bonds worth Rs.3000 crores. Incidentally, Vijaya Bank’s NPAs stand at 3.90% which is the lowest among the PSBs.

02. CDs can be produced in court as evidence: Supreme Court has ruled out that CDs can be produced as a valid evidence in a court of law.

03. First commercial satellite of Japan successfully launched: Japan successfully launched H-IIA rocket carrying Canadian TELSTAR 12V satellite for the purpose of communication and broadcasting. In a market dominated by Russia and Europe, Japan has entered this field for the first time.


04. India and Singapore sign agreements: India and Singapore have signed 10 agreements during the visit of PM Sri Modi in the areas of defence, civil aviation, national planning and cyber security. Another agreement was also signed in the area of preserving the heritage rich of Singapore.

05. Kuala Lumpur has hosted the 10th East Asia Summit: The 10th East Asia summit recently concluded in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with the theme “Our People, Our Community, Our Vision”. The leaders also deliberated on the political, security and economic issues of common regional concern with an aim to promote stability, economic prosperity and peace in the region of East Asia.


06. Anju Bobby George will head Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) : Anju Bobby George will be the chairperson of TOPS. The scheme, which will aim at identifying and supporting medal prospects for India in the 2016 and 2020 games, with focused disciplines on Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Wrestling and Shooting.


07. Nuclear-capable Dhanush missile successfully test fired from warship Subhadra: Dhanush, the nuclear-capable ballistic missile was successfully test fired from ‘Subhadra”, a warship in the Bay of Bengal, near Odisha. It is a variant of Prithvi-II missile and can carry both conventional as well as 500 kg of nuclear payload.


08. Veteran writer Kuldip Nayyar honoured: Veteran columnist, author and journalist Kuldip Nayar was conferred with the “Ramnath Goenka Lifetime Achievement Award” for his contribution to journalism. He is also the author of 15 books, some of which focused on relationship with Pakistan.


09. “E-lala” portal launched: Recently the Government has launched E-lala portal for small traders. This portal has been launched to augur the commercial interest of nearly 6 crore small business establishment and will aid in e-commerce activities, including that of having an online stores.

01. PM sanctions Rs.939.63 crores assistance for Tamil Nadu: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instructed the release of financial assistance worth Rs. 939.63 crore to assist flood-hit Tamil Nadu. The Government of Tamil Nadu had sought urgent financial assistance from the Centre and a central team to be deputed immediately to make an on-the-spot assessment of the damages.

02. Paisabazaar, ties up with Equifax to offer free credit scores: Credit reports aid the bank in determining the credit history of a person / institution. Presently the borrowers have to spend anywhere between Rs.500 to Rs.600 to get their credit scores. However Paisabazaar tieing up with Equifax would give the credit reports free of cost. PaisaBazaar gets 2.5 million enquiries on these grounds.

03. SBI declares Vijay Mallya as ‘Wilful Defaulter’: Vijay Mallya has been declared as willful defaulter by SBI and the bank has ensured that all the charges against him will stand in the court, since he has filed cases against a few banks, where he has defaulted in repayment.

04. Succor for more sectors to help Banks: Finance Minister has hinted succor for more sectors to help banks to mitigate the sufferings due to stressed assets. It has also hinted at steps which would increase the confidence level of banks and also increase credit off-take.

05. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) concerned at increase in call drop : The call drop rate increased to 24.59% for 2G services and 16.13% for 3G services , as per TRAI reports. It has also assessed that the gross revenue for telecom operators decreased 0.30 per cent for April-June quarter to Rs 65,030 crore from Rs 65,227 crore in the preceding quarter.

06. Jan Dhan Yojana accounts increase in numbers: As per the data made available, accounts under the Pradhan Manthri Jan Dhan Yojana have increased to 18.2 crores. However India has an unbanked population of 23 crores. The bank deposit penetration is 68% and that of credit is 52% . However, cash transactions still account for 97%, of the transactions that are carried out daily.


07. Paisa Bazaar disburses home loans worth Rs.5.7 crores: An online destination for credit cards and loans, Paisa Bazaar has disbursed a home loan worth Rs.5.7 crores which will the largest under this segment in the online platform. Earlier Snapdeal had a customer, who shopped for Rs.6 crores worth house.

08. Mogo for HDFC Bank – a novel idea: India’s second largest private sector bank HDFC has launched its musical logo viz.Mogo or the sonic branding, which would be played in the bank’s website, ATMs and other multiple touch points. This sonic branding would create a distinct brand image for the bank, it is expected.
