01. Vassiliki Thanou will be the first female Prime Minister of Greece: President of Greece’s Supreme Court Vassiliki Thanou has been appointed as the first female Prime Minister of the troubled country Greece. She was sworn in as head of a caretaker government that will lead nation until next snap election which is scheduled to be held in September 2015.

02. World Health Organization has declared India as Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus Free : World Health Oraganistion (WHO) has officially declared India as Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus free country, meaning mothers and newborns are free from tetanus at the time of birth.

03. Usain Bolt wins 200 meters title at World Championships : Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt has won world 200 metre title in the World Athletics Championships which was held in Beijing, China.

Government orders for inclusion of 13 central laws within purview of Land Acquisition Act 2013: Union Government has issued an executive order to include 13 Central Acts under the purview of Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RFCTLARR) Act , 2013. They are Railways Act, 1989. Electricity Act, 2003. Atomic Energy Act 1962. Indian Tramways Act 1886. Land Acquisition (Mines) Act 1885. National Highways Act 1956. Damodar Valley Corporation Act 1948. Petroleum and Minerals Pipelines Act 1962. Metro Railways (Construction of Works) Act 1978. Coal Bearing Areas Acquisition and Development Act 1957. Requisitioning and Acquisition of Immovable Property Act, 1948. Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1958.

05. Mountaineer Jot Singh wins Tenzing Norgay National Adventure award: Mountaineer Jot Singh of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has been honoured with the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2014-15.

Seven Indians feature in Forbes Asia’s ninth annual Heroes of Philanthropy list : Among them is Kerela-born entrepreneur Sunny Varkey, who has earmarked at least half his estimated $2.25 billion dollar fortune to charity as part of the Bill Gates and Warren Buffet-led Giving Pledge initiative. Four of Infosys’s co-founders – Senapathy Gopalakrishnan, Nandan Nilekani, S.D. Shibulal and Mohandas Pai – feature on the list for their independent contributions to the fields of health and education. The fifth Infosys co-founder, N.R. Narayana Murthy, is represented on the list by his son Rohan for donating $5.2 million to Harvard University Press for the promotion of ancient Indian literary classics. The other Indians on the list are London-based brothers Suresh and Mahesh Ramakrishnan, founders of Whitcomb & Shaftesbury tailors on London’s Saville Row. They have been nominated since they have spent nearly $3 million to train more than 4,000 people in tailoring over the past decade in India.

07. Argentina’s Lionel Messi has been named the UEFA Best Player in Europe for the 2014-15 season: Messi last won the award in 2011, the first year that Europe’s governing body awarded the honour. After that Iniesta won it in 2012, Ribery in 2013 and Cristiano Ronaldo in 2014.
