1. Beno Zephine the first visually –challenged woman to be selected for IFS : N. L. Beno Zephine a completely visually –challenged candidate became the first visually-challenged woman to be selected for the prestigious Indian Foreign Service (ISF).
2. Cairn India set to merge into Vedanta in $2.3 billion deal: In move to cut debts, India’s largest private miner Vedanta Ltd, headed by billionaire Anil Agarwal, will absorb oil firm Cairn India in a $ 2.3 billion all - share deal to create India’s largest diversified natural resources company.
3. Five major High Courts( HC) without Chief Justices: Because of the stalemate over the creation of the National Judicial Appointments Commission( NJAC) as many as five major high courts are forced to make do without a regular chief justice . Out of the sanctioned strength of 1,017 HC judges across the country vacancies have grown to 37%.
4. Income Tax officials to visit Schools: A young , dynamic tax official will visit selected schools and show the concept of taxation to the students. The menace of black money and parallel economyare also to be explained to school kids. This is being done at the initiative of Central Board of Direct Taxes( CBDT) as teaching to kids will play a very big influencing role in the days to come.
5. The Promoters of Catholic Syrian Bank intend to sell their stake: Catholic Syrian Bank( CSB), the Kerala – based private sector bank is talking to potential buyers as they intend to offload their stakes.
6. Canada to start supply of Uranium after four decades : Subsequent to the visit of PM Modi to Canada this April ,Canada is expected to supply nuclear fuel in autumn of this year making resumption of supply that was held up for more than four decades after Pokhran-I atomic test by India in 1974. This is a concrete outcome of PM Modi’s visit to Canada
7. Professor Harshad KumarDharamshi Bhadeshia of Indian origin knighted : Professor Harshad KumarDharamshi Bhadeshia ,Tata Steel Professor of Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge, has been conferred one of the highest honours awarded by Queen Elizabeth II namely knighthood.

1. Debroy Committee on Railway reforms submitted : The committee headed by Bibek Debroy has submitted its report on restructuring of the Railways . The committee’s recommendations are built on three pillars namely Commercial accounting , Changes in HR , and an Independent regulator.
2. Rs 1500 crore nuclear insurance pool setup : The Union Government has launched an insurance pool of Rs. 1500 crore , mandatory under the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act to offset the financial burden on foreign nuclear suppliers in case of an accident .
3. Right to clearance policy of Telangana Government welcomed: The new industrial policy declared by Telangana government giving the right to clearance for the businessmen has become very popular . It helps the businessmen to know why project proposals are being delayed and he can demand redress for unnecessary procrastination.
4. LIC to sell Insurance products in Bangladesh: LIC of India has got the permission to set up a joint venture company “ LIC Bangladesh Ltd” to sell insurance products in Bangladesh.
5. Amitabh Bachchan as super hero of a cartoon series: Amitabh Bachchan is making a debut, this time in an animated super hero avatar called Astra. Disney Channel India has made this 52-episode animated series called Astra Force, which will be telecast in 2017.
6. India’s diabetes rate up 123% since 1990: Diabetes has emerged as a major disease burden for India over the past two decades. While diabetes rate has increased by around 45% globally, it has jumped 123% in India between 1990 and 2013, a latest study has showed.
