1. Jaitley asks banks to cut interest rates: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley met the heads of Public , Private Sector banks and Insurance Companies and asked the banks to pass on the interest rate cut made by RBI, to the customers to make the loans cheaper.
2. Rock Garden creator Nek Chand passes away: There is a beautiful Rock Garden in Chandigarh, which was created by Nek Chand who made unique sculptures from waste materials .This 90 year old self made artist died in a private hospital.
3. India’s only double coconut tree artificially pollinated: Scientists at the Indian Botanical Garden in West Bengal’s Howrah district have carried out artificial pollination of the only double coconut tree in India, which bears the largest seed known to science.
4. Sangeet Natak Akademi announces its fellowship awards: Musicologist S.R. Janakiraman, Film-maker M.S Sathyu, Classical singer Vijay Kichlu and Musician Tulasidas Borkar have been chosen for the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi fellowships for the year 2014.
5. Solar goods train may become a reality: Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan informed that they are planning a solar goods train which is in its conceptual phase.
6. Smart cities scheme to take off on June 25: India has asked all partnering countries to be ready with the blue print for smart cities. PM Modi is expected to announce the scheme along with Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation( AMRUT) on June 25. So far, 14 countries have shown interest in sharing their expertise to create smart cities.
7. Jagendra Singh ,a journalist burnt alive at Shahjahanpur: Jagendra Singh a journalist from Shahjahanpur of Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly burnt alive by the local policemen at the instance of Uttar Pradesh Minister for Diary Development Ram Murthy Verma. Jagendra Singh died on June 8.
8. US initiates probe against TCS, Infosys for visa violations: In a worrying development for India’s IT industry, the US government has launched an investigation against Tata Consultancy Services( TCS) and Infosys for possible violations of H-1B visa regulations.
9. Zimbabwe ditches its own currency: Zimbabwe’s central bank is phasing out its massively inflated local currency and is moving to adopt the US dollar. Because of the massive inflation $5 US dollar is worth 175 quadrillion Zimbabwean dollars .

1. Private players to run trains: The Bibek Debroy committee set up by PM Modi Goverment on reforms for railways has suggested that private players may be permitted to run trains and has recommended scrapping of separate railway budget.
2. Utility bills can be used as address proof - RBI: RBI has notified that any utility bill which is less than two months old – including electricity , telephone, post paid mobile phone , water bill - will be an acceptable proof of address.
3. Private firm to fight in Panchayat polls in Kerala: Kitex Group, a textile firm with around 8,000 employees and an annual turnover of 1,000 crore plans to field independent candidates in all 17 wards of Kizhakambalam Panchayat, nearly 30 kms from Kochi. This is the first time a corporate company has filled its candidates for Panchayat polls.
4. Foxconn to make iPhones in India: Foxconn technology is in talks with Apple’s iPhone in India for making iphones in India.
5. Tatas open online store for its own five lakh employees: “mygrouptatastore.com” to be launched on group intranet will sell Tata branded merchandise in fashion, life style and several categories. This will cater to over five lakhs employees of Tata exclusively .
6. India Post to get a Payment Bank Licence: India Post is moving towards starting its own bank and is expected to get a Payment Bank licence. The Postal Department has floated tenders from top consultants firms in this connection.
