1. Reserve Bank of India is to revise priority sector lending guidelines for banks The guidelines are doing away with the distinction between direct and indirect agriculture lending and ensuring loan disbursal to the farm sector is evenly spread out throughout the year.

2. Centre proposes to differentiate a ‘corrupt decision’ from an erroneous one. The proposal is to amend Section 13 of the Act, which defines what constitutes criminal misconduct by a public servant and specifies penal provisions, including jail of up to seven years.

3. Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB) Ltd won the Asian Banker Achievement Award 2015. It was awarded for Technology Implementation in the category of Best Outsourcing Project (New Bank). The award was received by Usha Ananthasubramanian, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of BMB.

4. India launched a relief and rescue Operation named Maitri in earthquake hit Nepal. The operation will involve two dozen military aircraft and choppers along with bus services through road route.

5. Indian-origin diplomat Gopinath Pillai was awarded the Outstanding Service Award for his services in Singapore by the National University of Singapore (NUS). Currently, Pillai is serving as Ambassador-at-Large of Singapore and special envoy to Andhra Pradesh.

1. World Happiness Report 2015 was published by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) an initiative under the United Nations. The report was topped by Switzerland followed by Iceland, Denmark, Norway and Canada.

2. A private member’s Bill, Rights to Transgenders Bill was passed in Rajya Sabha for the first time in over three decades, with MPs cutting across party lines to unanimously endorse by voice vote a proposed legislation that aims to promote the rights of transgenders, including reservations and financial aid.

3. India is planning to extend e-visa on arrival facility to Chinese nationals, a move that has been held up for several years due to opposition from security agencies.

4. GST Bill has met with stiff resistance from the opposition parties in the Lok Sabha. The goods and services tax (GST) is a comprehensive value-added tax (VAT) on goods and services.

5. National Panchayati Raj Day was observed across India on 24 April 2015. The day is observed to mark the passing of the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992 that came into force with effect from 24 April 1993.
