1. According to a latest report prepared by the finance ministry, the Finance Intelligence Unit's action led to the “detection of unaccounted income of Rs 7,078 crore by the income tax (I-T) department while the Customs and Service Tax departments detected evasion of Rs 750 crore” during 2013-14.

2. According to new rules, if a beneficiary under the National Food Security Act does not get his or her entitlement of 5kg food grains then he/she would get an allowance of 1.25 times the difference between the government’s Minimum Support Price (MSP) for that grain and the prescribed rate under the law.

3. Loretta Lynch on 27 April 2015 was sworn-in as the United States' 83rd Attorney General, the first African-American woman to serve as the nation’s top law enforcement official.

4. Paris-headquartered Capgemini has announced the acquisition of New Jersey-based IGATE for $4 billion in cash. The acquisition will provide Capgemini offshore capabilities to compete with IBM, Accenture and large Indian infotech services players.

5. Government has raised the limit of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the pension sector to 49 per cent in line with the FDI cap in the insurance sector. Foreign Investment Promotion Board nod would be needed for investment beyond 26 per cent and up to the cap of 49 per cent.

1. Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor and Marathi actor Dilip Prabhavalkar were conferred with the prestigious Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar Award 2015.

2. Former Union Finance Minister and veteran BJP leader Yashwant Sinha was on 25 April 2015 conferred with the Officier de la Légion d’Honneur (Officer of the Legion of Honour) in recognition of his valuable contribution to thought on international issues.

3. The Global Surgery 2030 Study released recently says that five billion people globally do not have access to safe, affordable surgery and anaesthesia when they need them. In the absence of surgical care, common, easily treatable illnesses become fatal.

4. Centre has set new criterion that a minimum population size of 1 mn would be the basis for selection of towns where new airports would be constructed. The Union finance ministry's insistence on a certain minimum rate of return is seen as a barrier for the project of building a number of low-cost airports.

5. Europe's refusal to draw up contingency plans to prepare for the failure of negotiations with Greece is alarming euro-area finance ministers. As Greece struggles to pay pensions and salaries, its government has failed to present a plan to revamp its economy.
