01. Nobel Prize for Medicine announced: 2015 Nobel Prize for medicine is jointly shared by William C Campbell (Ireland) and Satoshi Omura (Japan). The Nobel prize was awarded to them for their discoveries in the areas of infections caused by roundworm parasites and also the discovery of a unique therapy against Malaria.
02. China is Asian basket ball champion: China has won the International Basketball Federation Asian Championship. It defeated Philippines in the final to be crowned as the champions.
03. World’s highest research centre inaugurated in Ladakh: The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has inaugurated at Ladakh, an Extreme Altitude Research Centre, which is situated at a height of 17600 above sea level. The centre will carry out research work and development work relating to anterior areas of food and agriculture in high altitudes.
04. Effective Waste Management Skoch Award to Trichy Corporation: Skoch, a Gurgaon based organization has chosen Trichy Corporation for the Skoch Smart Governance Award in Waste Transportation using Technology. The Corporation had used Radio Frequency Identification System for the above purpose.
05. Yet another crown for Sania-Hingis team: Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis pair has won the doubles title of Wuhan Tennis Open Competition. This is their seventh WTA doubles title in the current calendar year. They have won two grand slams viz. Wimbledon and The US Open.
06. Union Bank acquires stakes in Union KBC Asset Management: Belgian based KBC Asset Management Company sold its stake to its partner Union Bank of India. With this sale, the Government Bank holds the entire 100% shares in Union KBC Asset Management
07. Black Money Disclosure amount touch Rs.4147 crores: The final figure of the black money disclosure scheme which ended on September 30th has touched Rs.4147 crores from Rs.3770 crores as reported earlier. A few disclosures had come in closed covers towards the end of the scheme.
08. Angela Markel’s visit to India: German Chancellor Angela Markel is on a visit to India. During her visit, contribution of Euro 1 billion to the solar power fund was the highlight and 18 MoUs were signed in strategic areas.
09. GDP to exceed 7.5% points out Finance Ministry: Even though revenue collection will fall short by Rs.50,000 crores, the GDP is expected to touch 7.5% according to Finance Ministry sources. The total tax revenues are likely to touch Rs.14 lakh crores, against the estimate of Rs.14.5 lakh crores.
