1. Amalendu Krishna of TIFR wins Ramanujan Prize: The Ramanujan Prize for 2015 has been won by mathematician Amalendu Krishna of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. The prize is awarded jointly by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Italy, the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and the International Mathematical Union (IMU) to a person under 45 working in a developing country.

2. Sachin, Amitabh to turn ‘tiger ambassadors’: The Maharashtra government has asked film actor Amitabh Bachchan and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar to assume the role of ‘tiger ambassadors’ and help in the conservation drive of the State.

RBI keeps rates unchanged: The Reserve Bank of India kept the indicative policy rate (Repo) unchanged at 7. 25 per cent, citing the delay in transmission of earlier rate cuts by banks and the continuing inflationary pressures in the economy. It also retained the cash reserve ratio (CRR) at four per cent.

Encumbrance certificates must reflect tax dues, says HC: In a significant order, the Madras High Court Bench here has directed State government to devise a mechanism to ensure that dues towards electricity consumption charges, municipal tax, home loans and so on get reflected on encumbrance certificates issued by Sub-Registrars with respect to the immovable properties concerned.
