1. Mysuru tops Swachh Bharat rankings: Mysuru city in Karnataka topped the Swachh Bharat rankings that were released on 8th Aug by the ministry of urban development. Compared to the 2010 rankings New Delhi slid from rank 4 to rank 16.
2. Third tranche of coal auction from Aug 12 : The third tranche of coal auction will begin from Aug 12,and 22 applications from companies including Hindalco, Vedanta, JSW Steel and SAIL have cleared the initial stages.
3. Nalco seeks to set up $2.6 billion Iran aluminum complex: National Aluminium Co Ltd (Nalco) wants to set up an aluminum smelter and an associated power plant in Iran worth as much as $2.6 billion once sanctions are received from the country.
4. Foxconn plans to invest $5 billion: In a major push for the ‘Make in Maharashtra’ initiative, Taiwanese electronic contract manufacturer Foxconn has committed to invest $5 billion (over Rs.31,500 crore) in Maharashtra to set up large scale research & development (R&D) and manufacturing facilities for its global requirement.
5. Cashless treatment for crash victims on national highways soon: The government proposes to roll out a 'cashless treatment scheme' for road crash victims on the entire Golden Quadrilateral and North-South and East-West corridors, covering approximately 13,500 km of national highways.
