1. SEBI has mandated the appointment of Company Secretary as compliance officer for the purpose of the newly-framed listing regulations. This will strengthen the compliance ecosystem in listed companies.

2. US President Barack Obama will be the Chief Guest at 66th India’s Republic Day celebrations 2015. Obama will participate in the Republic Day celebrations of India, which will be held in New Delhi on 26 January 2015. He will be the first US President to attend the Republic Day Parade of India.

3. US President Barack Obama's immigration plan seeks to significantly liberalise the visa regime for students, professionals and budding entrepreneurs. The move is to stop those with high potential and specialised skills from leaving its shores.

4. India’s Mars mission Mangalyaan developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been listed among the 25 best innovations of 2014 by the Time magazine.

5. Reserve Bank of India has issued one more alert to the public about the newest form of fraud perpetrated in its name - a credit card issued by fraudsters in the name of the RBI.

1. According to a report by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IMRB International, the number of Internet users in India is expected to grow 32 per cent to 302 million this year from 213 million at the end of December 2013. Presently, India has the third-largest Internet user base in the world. By December 2014, India will overtake the US as the second largest Internet users’ base in the world.

2. Cabinet approved four significant power projects- Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, Integrated Power Development Scheme, North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project, and a framework agreement for energy cooperation among SAARC members. The North Eastern Project is to implemented with the help of World Bank and Power Ministry.

3. Department of Telecom has identified 45 cities and 705 tourist locations to provide Wi-Fi services in public areas. The Government may free up the 60 GHz spectrum band for Wi-Fi which will allow operators to use this airwaves without any licence fee or spectrum charge.

4. Global ratings agency Moody’s Investors Service has revised its outlook for Indian non-financial corporates to ‘stable’ from ‘negative’ due to economic recovery and political stability in the country.

5. Giriraj Singh assumed charge as the Minister of State for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME). He had served the Cabinet of Bihar as co-operative minister from 2005-2010 & Animal Husbandry minister from 2010 to 2013.
