01. New Prime Minister for Canada: Justin Trudeau, the Liberal Party leader was elected as the Prime Minister of Canada. His party won 189 seats, in the 338 seat parliament. Justin is the son of Pierre Trudeau, who was Prime Minister of Canada for16 years until 1984.

02. PM inaugurates IDFC Bank: PM Modi inaugurated the IDFC Bank in New Delhi. IDFC bank is an off-shoot of the Infrastructure major IDFC which commenced operations in 1997. IDFC was granted licence in July 2015 and it officially commenced operations on October 1st 2015.

Denmark has the safest pension plans in the world: The Melbourne Mercer Global Pension Index Report, which was released recently rates Denmark as the safest place for retirement and this country has the best retirement system. It pocketed an overall scale of 81.7. India ranked last in the report with a score of 40.3

04. Veteran cricketer Sehwag retires from International cricket: The aggressive Indian cricketer Virendra Sehwag retired from all forms of International cricket. He has joined the Masters Cricket League, an UAE based T-20 tournament, for which retirement from all forms is a must.

05. Global Status Report on road safety released by WHO: World Health Organization (WHO) has released the report on global status concerning road safety. The report has compiled statistics on the fatalities on road and also released figures about enforcement of safety norms by various nations of the world. The report suggests that the number of road deaths have gone upto 1.25 million per year.

06. International World Statistics Day: October 20th is being observed as the ‘World Statistics Day’. The theme of the day was ‘Better data, better lives’. The day is a reflection of the significance of sustainable national statistical capacity to produce reliable and timely statistics and indicators which will be helpful in measuring a country’s progress.

07. V.K.Malhotra appointed as Chief of All India Council of Sports: Veteran sports administrator V.K.Malhotra has been appointed as the President of the All India Council of Sports. Prior to this post, he has been the President of the Archery Association of India continuously for 40 years.

08. Telugu people living in US to raise capital for Amaravathi: Telugu people living in North America have planned to contribute for construction of the new capital of Andhra Pradesh in Amaravathi. Telugu Association of North America (TANA) has been collecting donations since May 2014 for this purpose.

09. ONGC targets $10-$12 billion foreign oil and gas investments: The foreign investment arm of India's top oil explorer ONGC is targeting $10-$12 billion of oil and gas asset purchases over the next three years, including more corporate acquisitions, its managing director said.
