01. Confucius Peace Prize for Zimbabwean President: Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe was conferred with China’s Confucius Peace Prize. Even at the age of 91 he continues to work for the upliftment of African people and maintain harmony in the area. This prize is the Chinese equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize.

02. First World Indigenous Games begins in Brazil: The first World Indigenous Games began in Brazil which has participants from over 30 nations. Indigenous athletes compete in the games which will feature multi-events. Around 2000 athletes are participating in the games.

03. RBI’s directives to Banks on implementation of Gold Monetisation Scheme 2015: RBI has issued directions to Banks for implementation of Gold Monetisation Scheme 2015, under which a minimum of 30 gms of gold can be deposited into the Bank. The deposit will carry interest.

04. Saina loses No.1 ranking: Ace shuttler Saina Nehlwal lost her No.1 world rankings to Carolina Marin in view of the early exits made by her in Japan Open and Denmark Open tournaments. She is 1630 points behind Martin, as per the rankings released by Badminton World Federation.

05. Anti-dumping duty on Chinese components: Government of India has imposed anti-dumping duty on imported Chinese auto components. Components like front axle beam and steering knuckles meant for heavy vehicles were imported from China at less prices, despite domestic production.

06. Forex reserves increase: Forex reserves increased by US $458 million to touch US $ 353.52 billion this week. The hike is on account of increase in foreign currency assets, which is a major component of the reserves.

07. India will meet its fiscal targets Reports: Despite risks of shortfall in collection of taxes, India is likely to meet its fiscal targets, as envisaged in the report circulated by Bank of America- Merill Lynch.

08. World Bank says that Payment banks will reach rural areas: India’s move to set up 11 payment banks would take banking to rural areas, as per the report of World Bank. These banks could very well transform rural remittance market to a large extent.
