01. World Polio day: International World Polio day was observed on October 24th. Originally Rotary
International established this day and on this day campaigns are being held throughout the world to create awareness on this disease which can cripple a man.
02. RBI vetoes 100% FDI in banks: RBI turned down the proposal of the finance ministry to allow 100% FDI in banks. Presently the FDI ceiling is 74%, out of which 49% can come through automatic route and the rest 25% through Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB).
03. PSUs disinvestment target reduced by 50%: Owing to the volatility in the stock markets, the Department of Disinvestment has reduced the PSU stake sale target reduced by 50% to Rs.30,000 crores from the Rs.69,500 crores, which was set earlier.
04. Lewis Hamilton wins 2015 F-1 Championships: Lewis Hamilton has won 2015 F-1 US Championship. This was his third title. So far he has a career win of 43 titles and he drives a Mercedes car.
05. First ever silver medal in Archery World Cup: Abishek Verma became the first Indian ever to win a silver medal in Archery World cup finals. He was a gold medalist in the Incheon games held recently.
06. India’s first Double Decker Shatabdi train: The first ever double decker Shatabdi express would run between Mumbai and Goa. The first ever Shatabdi express was flagged off in 1988 between Delhi and Jhansi.
07. DD emerges most watched Hindi channel: Doordharshan has emerged as the most watched Hindi Channel ahead of other general entertainment channels. This has been revealed in the data released by Broadcast Audience Research Council which includes rural India for the first time.
08. Third India-Africa summit gets underway: The major focus of the week-long India-Africa summit would be the tapping of unbounded opportunities and expanding two-way engagement in varied sectors with the African continent, which will see participation by 54 nations.
09. IBA contemplating on exempting specialist officers from general banking : IBA is considering of advising banks to utilize the services of specialist officers from general banking, to improve the quality of supervision in the areas of their core competencies.
10. Copying in exams, in China a crime: Copying in examinations by students in China has been made a punishable offence. Those found copying would get an imprisonment upto seven years and parents who aide in copying would also be sent to jail. The new law will be effective from Nov 1st.
