01. Alexis Tsipras sworn-in as Prime Minister of Greece September 24, 2015: Left wing Syriza party candidate Alexis Tsipras was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Greece Earlier in January 2015, he had sworn in for first becoming youngest PM of Greece since 1865 at the age of 40.

02. Mukesh Ambani is the richest person in India for 9th consecutive year: Mukesh Ambani has been named as India’s richest person for 9th consecutive year by Forbes. He has a net worth of 18.9 billion dollars. Incidentally, Reliance Industries Ltd. is the second most valuable company by market value in India. Dilip Sangvi of Sun Pharma is the second richest Indian.

03. Marathi film ‘Court’ selected as India’s official entry to Oscars 2015: The Marathi film ‘Court’ has been officially nominated as India’s entry to the Oscars. The film was officially shortlisted from30 other films by a 17-member jury headed by Amol Palekar. The movie is a courtroom drama that examines the Indian legal system through the trial of an aging folk singer.

04. Japan’s Prime Minister to announce 600 trillion yen GDP target: In what is controversially stated as unrealistic, Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will announce a plan to raise GDP to 600 trillion Japanese Yen (Approximately $5 trillion). The Japanese Government plans to augment income, support childcare and nursing for the elderly.

05. Monsoon deficit drops by 3%: The Indian Meteorological Department has announced that widespread rains in Chhatisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra has helped to reduce the overall monsoon deficit to 13% in the country. Accordingly the deficit has dropped down by 3%

06. Stuti Narain Kacker appointed Chairperson of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR): Stuti Narain Kacker has been appointed as the Chairperson of NCPCR. She was formerly working as the Secretary at the Department of Disability Affairs. NCPCR, which was set up in 2007 deals with education, child development, elimination of child labour and more.

07. United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support Arunachal Vision 2030: The UNDP has expressed its intention to provide support in implementation of Arunachal Vision 2030 of Arunachal Pradesh. It covers medium and long term development goals and respective strategies encompassing six broad areas like enabling infrastructure, economic potential, social sectors, social harmony, border development and resource mobilisation.

08. Swami Dayanand Saraswathi passes away: Swami Dayanand Saraswathi, 85, a widely respected Hindu religious leader passed away in his Ashram in Rishikesh. He set up the “Acharya Sabha” which brought many Hindu leaders from across the world under one platform to discuss about the problems faced by Hinduism. He was also a renowned teacher of Advaita Vedanta.

09. SBI to raise Rs.5, 393 crores through preferential shares to the Government: The share holders of SBI has approved raising Rs.5,393 crores by issuing preferential shares to the Government. With the issuance of the above shares, the Government’s holdings in the Bank will increase from the existing 59.15% to 60.18%
