1. China plans to build a 540-kilometre high-speed rail link between Tibet and Nepal, passing through a tunnel under Mt Everest. The rail line is expected to be completed by 2020.

2. Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has permitted foreign investors to reinvest in government bonds the same day, giving them the option to churn their portfolio. Currently, the entire government bond limit for foreign investors is almost fully exhausted.

3. HSBC Holdings Plc must pay a Euro 1-billion ($1.1 billion) bail after being charged in a French criminal probe into tax evasion at its private bank, three months after the same unit drew fresh scrutiny in the UK.

4. India and France signed 17 agreements, including on the stalled nuclear project in Jaitapur in Maharashtra. Indian Air Force (IAF) would buy 36 Rafale fighters in fly-away condition.

5. Former Air Chief Marshal Hrushikesh Moolgaonkar passed away after a prolonged illness. He had the honour of leading the fly-past on Independence day in 1947.

1. An 11-member international jury has declared Thane the National Earth Hour Capital with the city emerging the winner from India in the Earth Hour City Challenge this year.

2. India recently successfully test-fired its nuclear-capable Dhanush ballistic missile with a strike range of 350 km from a naval ship off the Odisha coast.

3. A recently released UNESCO global education report says that India has reduced its out of school children by over 90% and has achieved universal primary education.

4. Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recently said that economic growth is accelerating in the euro zone and in India but slowing in China, Russia and Brazil.

5. Home ministry suspended Greenpeace India’s foreign funding licence on the charge of violating rules and working against the economic interests of the country. A leaked report purportedly of the Intelligence Bureau had last year blamed groups like Greenpeace India for slowing economic growth through ‘anti-national’ activities.
