01. Indian Railways wins hockey tournament: The Indian Railways team has won the 32nd Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament for the first time. The Railways team defeated the previous year champions Indian Oil team in the final match which was held in Mumbai. The tournament is organized by Surjit Hockey Society in Jalandhar, Punjab in the memory of Surjit Singh Randhawa.


02. Inland shipping port at Jalore, Rajasthan: Jalore in Rajasthan has been chosen for construction of an inland shipping port, which will connect the state with the Arabian sea. Through this waterway, which will come up shortly, minerals will be transported. The project will be supported by Waterways Authority of India (IWAI)



03. RBI Governor expresses concern with Educational Loan repayments: Despite giving a moratorium period in repayment upto the time of employment and despite flexible repayment options, the overdues in Educational Loans have been mounting, as commented by Dr.Raghuram Rajan, RBI Governor.

Government planning to bring in law of certainty on Aadhar usage: FM Jaitley has hinted that the government may consider bringing in a legislation to bring certainty to the use of Aadhar for government welfare programmes and a few other transactions, following Supreme Court’s ruling on limited use of Aadhar for the programmes.

05. Government hints at stopping LPG subsidy to the well off: The Oil minister recently hinted at stopping the LPG Subsidy to people beyond a certain income level. This decision might be taken since only 42.5 lakh, out of 15 crore people have given up the LPG subsidy.

06. 80,000 crores development package for Jammu & Kashmir: PM Modi has made announcements to implement 80,000 crore worth development package for Jammu & Kashmir. He pledged to transform J & K into a new, modern, progressive and prosperous state for which there will no dearth of money.

07. Un-electrified villages to be made nil by March 2017: The power ministers of all the states who met in Delhi recently decided to provide electricity for all the villages of the country by March2017. This will be achieved through the Central Government’s ambitious Deendayal Upadhyaya Grameen Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY).
