01. Ace shooter Heena Sindhu wins Gold: India’s ace shooter Heena Sindhu won a gold medal in the 8th Asian Air Gun Championships held in New Delhi recently. Shweta Singh won the silver medal, while Seon A Kim of Korea won the bronze. India ended up with 17 medals in the championships, inclusive of 6 gold medals.
02. India is the most favoured FDI destination: As per the data released by Financial Times of London, India is the most favoured Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) destination, overtaking China during the first half of the year 2015.
03. 17th All India Whips Conference held in Vishakapatnam: 179 whips from various state assemblies attended the 17th All India Whips Conference held in Vishakapatnam. The conference stressed on assessing the needs of the people in their respective constituencies in the areas of health, education and sanitation.
04. ‘Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan’ launched: The Government recently launched the Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan) which laid special emphasis on constructing accessible government buildings to the disabled persons. As part of the campaign, motorized tricycles will also be provided to them at a subsidy of Rs.30,000/= who have 70 – 90% disability.
05. National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) launched: To assist the parents and students to
choose the institutions, the Government launched NIRF which will enable the educational institutions to be ranked among their peers with a set of pre-defined parameters.
06. 30th September : International Translation Day: International Federation of Translators (FIT) has
established the International Translation Day, with the theme “The changing face of translation and
interpretation” and is observed throughout the world on September 30th.
07. INS Kochi commissioned: India’s largest warship weighing 7500 tonnes ‘INS Kochi’ was dedicated at Mumbai. It was constructed by Mazagon Dock Ship builders in Mumbai. It is equipped to operate to helicopters and has MF-STAR radar.
08. India moves up in ranking in Global Competitiveness Index (GCI): India reached 55th Rank, moving up by 16 places in GCI among 140 economies. The list is topped by Switzerland and Singapore ranks 2nd.
09. Form 15G and 15H can be filed online: Form 15G & 15H to be submitted for claiming exemption from TDS on incomes from interest can now be filed online. Form 15G is applicable for individuals and 15H for senior citizens, who are seeking exemption from interest income.
10. Fitch ratings lowers GDP growth rate to 7.5%: Fitch has lowered GDP growth rate for India to 7.5%. This downgrading is mainly due to deficient rainfall in the country, which is expected to lower the growth of the economy.
