01. October 9th is world post day: October 9th which marks the establishing date of Universal Postal Union (UPU) is celebrated as the world post day throughout the world. On this day, the post offices of the world create an awareness in its citizens about their roles in their daily lives.

02. Noble Peace prize announced: Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet, comprising of four key organizations in the civil society of Tunisia bagged the Nobel peace prize for 2015. The Quartet won the prize for its contribution in building a pluralistic democracy in the country of Tunisia, after the Jasmine revolution which happened in 2011.

03. Yet another honour for A R Rehman: Veteran music director A R Rehman has been named as the cultural ambassador of Seychelles, for his role in playing a key role in the enhancement of the art and cultural development of Seychelles.

CIPS launched in China: China International Payment System (CIPS) was launched in China, which paves way for clearing of transactions in Yuan, outside China through the help of People’s Bank of China. CIPS will enhance the efficiency of the use of Yuan globally by countries doing business with China.

05. m-Visa enabled mobile payment service launched by ICICI Bank: ICICI bank has launched m-visa based mobile payment service, by which their customers can make cashless payments through their smart phones and also use the service for other related payments at shops and e-commerce sites.

06. Svetlana Alexievich, Belaruasian author wins Nobel for literature: Svetlana Alexievich has won the Nobel prize 2015 for literature. She is an investigative journalist, who has done lot of work in that area. Her books have been published in a number of countries, including India.

Collection of Indirect taxes go up: Signalling good economic activity in the country, the revenue from indirect taxes increased to Rs.3.24 lakh, going up by nearly 35% for the period from April to September 2015. Government’s budget to collect Indirect taxes for the current fiscal is Rs.6.47 lakh crores.

08. Two pension schemes attract over one crore subscribers: The number of subscribers to the National Pension Scheme and Atal Pension Yojana crossed over one crore subscribers. Both the schemes have a total assets of Rs.1,00,275 crores.

09. Bandhan bank plans to expand: The recently opened private sector Bandhan bank is planning to open another 105 branches in the next five months. Presently the bank has 523 branches with 83 lakhs customers.

10. RBI may take the call on two more PSU Banks for reduction in NPAs: RBI may intervene and take Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) against Central Bank of India , Allahabad Bank and Andhra Bank following alarming increase in their NPA portfolio. The NPAs in these banks have crossed the single digit mark , which is very high for any bank.
