1. Reserve Bank is working on comprehensive guidelines to protect consumers from being cheated by entities. According to the existing norms, NBFCs cannot raise funds through private placement from more than 49 people at a time.
2. National Girl Child Day is observed on 24 January 2015 across the nation. Government of India has started National Girl Child Day as a national girl’s development mission. The mission raises the awareness among people all over the country about the importance of girls’ promotion.
3. Former Thailand Premier Yingluck Shinawatra was impeached by an army-backed parliament for alleged failure to stop corruption in rice-pledging scheme. The impeachment will ban Yingluck Shinawatra from politics for five years.
4. The telecom department has set up a committee to oversee timely implementation of the national broadband network NOFN across the country, which will be the backbone of the government's ambitious 'Digital India' programme. The project aims to deliver key social and economic infrastructure such as education and healthcare to the citizens digitally.
5. Government has set an ambitious target of imparting skills to 30 crore people, one out of every four Indians, by 2020 to help them secure jobs. It is a part of the new national skills development policy which will have a special emphasis on "soft skills".

1. Modi and Obama claimed to have broken the logjam over the Indo-US nuclear deal. India and the US renewed their defence framework agreement for another 10 years and inked an agreement to jointly produce military hardware including the next-generation Raven mini UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles). India and the US also elevated their 'strategic dialogue' to 'strategic and commercial dialogue'.
2. A "hotline" would be set up between the US President and the Indian prime minister. Presently, India's PM does not have a "hotline" with any other world leader. US will install a field investment officer in India to help mobilize private capital for the clean energy sector.
3. United Nation (UN) Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Indian sociologist Saraswathi Menon in peace-building panel. This panel will review peace building activities and will conduct a policy and institutional review of the peace-building architecture.
4. The Department of Post is eyeing to sell insurance products of other companies, especially in rural areas. The already proposed Post India Insurance will start with an initial capital of Rs 100 crore that will be made available by DoP.
5. Legendary cartoonist R K Laxman died in Pune after a prolonged illness at the age of 94. His cartoons targeted social ills and differences among political ideologies sharply and spread awareness among people.
