1. The BSE has launched a platform for whistleblowers to provide information on wrongdoing such as market manipulation, market abuse, market irregularity, suspicious trading without disclosing their identity, through a link on its web page. A similar platform is available on the National Stock Exchange.

2. Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh was dismissed by the government before her two-year term ended. S Jaishankar, current ambassador to America, has been appointed the new foreign secretary.

3. Tata group company MMP Mobi Wallet Payment Systems Wednesday launched PaySmart card, VISA-powered prepaid card in partnership with Ratnakar Bank (RBL). Customers will be able to withdraw money from VISA-licensed ATMs and also pay for goods and services at all merchants that accept VISA debit or credit cards nationally.

4. World Bank expressed concern over the disturbing malnutrition of children and gender inequality in Himachal Pradesh despite impressive economic growth and reduction in poverty during the past years. The report forecasts high economic growth in the coming years, particularly in infrastructure.

5. Union Cabinet reconstituted the Empowered Committee on setting up of Semiconductor Wafer Fabrication (FAB) manufacturing facilities in the country. The reconstituted committee will be headed by NITI Aayog member V K Saraswat. The setting up of FAB units will promote Electronics System Design and manufacturing in India which will stimulate the flow of capital and technology.

1. Punjab is to set up Asia's first bio-ethanol refinery with a consortium of Beta Renewables, Novozymes and CVC India Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, for an estimated project worth Rs 950 crore. This will help in tackling the major problem of paddy straw burning and the proposed plant would also generate co-products of biogas, pellets and compost.

2. Renowned music composer and actor Shekhar Sen was appointed as the Chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA). He was appointed for a term of 5 years with immediate effect and he succeeds Leela Samson who resigned from the position on 5 September 2014.

3. Krishna Chaudhary was appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). He was the Director General of the Railway Protection Force before the appointment. Chaudhary succeeded Subhas Goswami who retired on 31 December 2014.

4. Banks will soon have the power to convert loans into shares for taking over companies from truant borrowers. Lenders will be allowed to hold as much as 30% equity in a company and insert a conversion clause in loan documents. The move could make it easier for a banking consortium to force an existing management to fall in line and also bring about a management change.

5. Government fetched Rs. 22,557 crore from stake sale in Coal India being oversubscribed by 1.069 times. The disinvestment drive got a major boost with the sale. It is the biggest issue ever and it is almost equal to the highest collection for the whole year in any year.
