01. 8 core sectors of IIP grows by 3.2%: Coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity – 8 core sectors of Index of Industrial Production has grown by 3.2% during September 2015. However, the cumulative growth rate in the last six months of 2015- 16 was just 2.3% , lower than 5.1 per cent registered during the same period in FY 2014-15.

02. Anil Kapoor to be the Chief Guest at International Film Festival of India (IFFI): Veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor will be the chief guest at the IFFI which will be held in Goa. Film director Shekar Kapur will be the head of the Jury, who will select the best films in the festival.


03. New book released: “Interlinking of Indian Rivers”, a book written by Radha Kant Bharathi was released yesterday. This book focuses on the economic, social and commercial significance of linking the rivers of India. The author is a scholar in Geography and has produced a documentary on the subject, which won many accolades.

04. Shiva Thapa No.2 in world boxing: Ace boxer Shiva Thapa has been ranked No.2 in world boxing. He moved up by 5 places to achieve this record. The No.1 rank is held by Michael Conlan of Ireland.


05. Lionel Messi to be brand ambassador for Tata: Tata Motors has roped in the reputed football player Lionel Messi to be its brand ambassador. Tata will be the first Indian brand, endorsed by the football icon. Presently he is the captain of Argentina football team.


06. Hindi is the largest spoken Indian language in USA: As per the United States Census Bureau, Hindi language has been officially declared as the largest spoken Indian language in USA. More than 6 lakhs people use Hindi as a medium of communication in USA.

07. Silver medal for India in Asian shooting: Jitu Rai of India wins the silver medal in the 13th Asian Shooting Championships held in Kuwait city. Korea’s Park Daehun has won the gold medal in the championship. Jitu Rai ended up with a final score of 189.5, while the gold medalist scored 199.2.


08. Service sector peaks at 8 months high in October: India’s services sector activity touched a 8 month high in October , which was achieved with the help of a significant rise in new business orders even as growth in manufacturing output eased. The Nikkei Business Activity index climbed to 53.2 in October, from 51.3 in September.

09. Indian sworn in as Defence Minister of Canada: Indian born Harjit Sajjan has been sworn in as the defence minister of Canada. Sajjan is a decorated Lt Colonel in the Canadian Armed Forces and he represents Vancouver South as an elected MP.
