01. Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale honoured: Veteran stage and television actor Vikram Gokhale was conferred with Vishnudas Bhave Award. He had earlier received Sangit Natak Academy Award also


02. Belgium No.1 in FIFA Rankings: For the first time, Belgium has secured the No.1 rank in the recently released FIFA Football rankings. The team was earlier placed No.3 and reached the first position ahead of Argentina and World champions Germany.

03. New book released: ‘Rebooting India’, a book authored by Nandan Nilekani and Viral Shah was released recently. This book explains about the demographic dividend of our country by 2020 with a robust 64% of its population of working age. It also talks about the importance of bridging the gaps that distort our society.


04. International Yoga conference to be held in Bengaluru: International Conference on Frontiers in Yoga Research and its applications (INCOYRA) will be held in Bengaluru during January 2016. The target of the conference is Yoga in integrated healthcare systems. It will also focus on releasing the research findings in the field of integrative medicine.

05. Govt. to help power sector: Centre has come to the rescue of the ailing State Govt. Boards which are running in loss. The liability of the State Electricity Boards have to be taken over by the respective state governments to the tune of 75%. Announcing the Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY), the central government has said that SEBs in the country would stop making losses by FY2018.

06. Indian railways doubles ticket cancellation charges: The Indian Railways has doubled the ticket cancellation charges from Rs.30 to Rs.60 for sleeper class and from Rs.90 to Rs.180 for AC classes. There will also be no refund after the departure of the train.

07. Govt proposes to impose Swach Bharat cess of 0.5% : Over and above the Service tax of 14% the government has decided to impose Swach Bharat cess of 0.5% on all the services availed by the public. This additional cess is expected to bring a revenue of Rs.400 crores to the Government in the last four months of this fiscal year.

08. Only 4.5% of Indian population are graduates: Only 4.5% of the population are graduates and above and 32.6% of the population does not have schooling upto the primary school level, as revealed in the latest census.

09. For the first time , SBI takes out Rs.485 crore in profit from overseas operations : SBI has taken out Rs.485 crore profit for the first time from overseas operations. The bank announced that even excluding the above amount, the bank has a healthy 15% increase in profits.

10. Banks have to price bad loans lower for better recovery : The above observation was made by the credit rating agency Indian Ratings and Research. Assets Reconstruction Companies (ARCs) generally buy the bad loans from banks at a discount in exchange for security receipts. But, this year only Rs.6000 crore of bad loans have been put up for sale due to high rate of interests.
