1. 50 Nations sign MOU in Beijing to establish AIIB: India and 49 other founding members of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank(AIIB) on June 29, 2015 signed articles that determine each country’s share. China, India and Russia are three largest shareholders, with 30.34%, 8.52% and 6.66% stake respectively. This bank is expected to be formally established by year-end.
2. Foreign law firms will soon carry out arbitration in India: The Centre will, in a phased manner, soon open up India’s non-litigious services and international arbitration legal services to foreign law firms.
3. Katju takes Parliament condemnation to court: The former Supreme Court judge, Justice Markandey Katju, moved the apex court on June 29, 2015 against both Houses of Parliament for passing two resolutions condemning his social media posts on Mahatma Gandhi and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. In the petition posted on his blog ‘Satyam Bruyat’, Justice Katju wants the apex court to quash the resolutions passed on March 11 and 12 this year by both houses as they violate his rights as a private citizen to express his views freely.
4. Vyapam scam takes dark turn: As many as 25 witnesses and accused persons have died since the multi crore Madhya Pradesh Vyapam scam involving the alleged rigging of thousands of seats for admissions and hundreds of government jobs came in 2013. Unofficial reports in fact, put the number at over 40.
5. Greece shuts down banks: Bank have been closed till July 6. All Greek banks, including branches of foreign banks, will remain closed until after the referendum on the bailout proposals.
6. Vijender turns pro; he is now out of Olympics: Vijendar Singh formally snapped all ties with Indian boxing by turning professional at media event in London. Vijender, who became the first Indian boxer to win Olympic medal with his bronze in 2008, signed a multi-year promotional agreement that will ensure him a minimum of six fights in the first year of turning pro.
7. Jwala – Ashwini pair wins Canada open women’s double title: Indian shuttlers G.Jwala and Ashwini Ponnappa won the Canada Open women’s doubles title after upstaging the top-seeded Dutch pair.
8. India Explores Indian Ocean for Gold: India has begun an exploration for gold and such mineral deposit in Southern Indian Ocean. This is India first ever seabed exploration for polymetallic sulphides which is being done at the Rodriguez Triple Junction(RTJ), a geological junction in the southern Indian Ocean where three tectonic plates meet near Mauritius.
9. One Person Companies catch entrepreneur’s fancy: The concept of a One Person Company(OPC), which was introduced by the Companies Act, 2013, has had its fair share of takers. According to statistics made available by the ministry of corporate affairs (MCA), 1,400-odd OPCs have been registered since the date of enactment of the Companies Act in August 2013.
