1. Digital India to bring investments in billions: The Digital India Week to be inaugurated by PM Modi, on July 1 is likely to see commitments of “ billions of dollars” of investments by foreign and domestic firms, Telecomm Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
2. Greek PM calls for referendum: Alexis Tsipras, the PM of Greece called a referendum on austerity demands from foreign creditors, rejecting an “ultimatum” from lenders and putting a deal that could determine Greece’s future in Europe to a popular vote.
3. RBI takes up jute industry funding woes with IBA: The RBI has taken up the issue regarding the funding problems of the jute industry with the Indian Banks Association. The jute industry has appealed to Raghuram Rajan, for releasing of more loans by the banks to the jute industry.
4. Union Bank to raise Rs.3700 crore for capital: The Union Bank of India will be raising Rs.3700 crore for augmenting its capital .This will be done through a public issue of shares or a rights issue or private placement.
5. India recalls envoy to New Zealand after wife accused of beating cook: It is alleged that the wife of India’s high commissioner in New Zealand Mr. Ravi Thapar assaulted a staff member in Wellington of New Zealand. The high commissioner has been recalled and an inquiry ordered.
6. Ministry of Home affairs has said no to clearance of Sun TV channels: The Union Home Ministry has not given security clearance for Sun TV, as there were serious inputs in the public domain against its promoters that gives rise to national security and economic security concerns.
7. The Sixth extinction will be caused by man: Elizabeth Kolbert won the2015 Pulitzer prize for nonfiction for her book entitled “The Sixth extinction” . She has stated in her book that the sixth extinction will be different and it will be the first to be caused by man.
8. Deutsche Bank’s Jain misled Bundesbank says German regulator: Deutsche Bank’s co-chief executive Anshu Jain may have “knowingly made inaccurate statements” to Germany’s Bundesbank during investigations into manipulation of the inter-bank rate setting process . This is alleged by the Deutsche Bank.
9. High Court raises safety emission bar for quadricycles : The Gauhati high court has in an interim order directed the central government not to permit the auto manufactures to release and sell small four-wheelers with a mass up to 1500kg and quadricycles without putting them to crash- test and emission test.
