1. Union Public Commission has announced the results for the prestigious Civil Service Examination: Ira Singhal from Delhi who topped the examination this year became the first physically challenged women to top the Civil Services examination in the general category.
2. Videocon plans $2.5 billion Brazil oil and gas investments: Videocon plans $2.5 billion in oil and gas ventures in Brazil over the next two to three years, as part of its strategy to boost the business.
3. Corporation Bank launches first MUDRA card: The MUDRA(Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency) card under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana(PMMY) scheme was launched by the Corporation Bank on 4th July. Mr. Adhia, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, released the card to a few customers.
4. Database to check fraud: In a bid to check frauds and multiple claims, the life insurance industry is planning to set up a centralised database of clients by this year, according to V. Manickam the Secretary General of the Life Insurance Council. 24 Life Insurance Companies will be entering into the agreements with the vendor to provide details of their policy holders. The database is likely to be ready by December, 2015 and will look to ensure that there is no duplication of death claims.
5. Adani signs deal to set up 648MW solar power plant in Tamil Nadu: Power major Adani Group has signed up with Tamil Nadu Electricity Board to set up a 648MW solar power plant at Kamuthi in Ramanathapuram. This will be the largest solar park in Tamil Nadu.
6. 3 Billion units of power wasted in one year: It is the height of paradox for a country where blackouts are far more a norm than exception. Over 3 billion units of electricity, or a day’s national consumption, were wasted in 2014-2015 as congestion in the transmission highways blocked trading between surplus and deficit regions.
7. China curbs IPOs, to end market rout: China froze share offers and set up a market- stabilization fund on 4th July, 2015 in an effort to pull stock markets out of a nosedive that is threatening the world’s second-largest economy.
