1. Centre set up a panel, comprising labour, industry, government representatives, to give it suggestions on proposed labour reforms. Union labour ministry had proposed integrating three laws — the Trade Unions Act, the Industrial Disputes Act and the Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act — into a single code for industrial relations.

2. Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved raising the threshold limit for foreign investment proposals that need mandatory clearance of the Cabinet to Rs. 3,000 crore from Rs. 1,200 crore.

3. Union Cabinet approved operationalisation of three Centre-sponsored insurance and pension schemes — Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana — in all States and Union Territories.

4. Oscar Holderer, the last known surviving member of the German engineering team that designed the rocket that took US astronauts to the Moon died in Alabama on 5 May 2015. He was 95.

5. French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo was presented with the 2015 Freedom of Expression Courage Award of the PEN American Centre at the American Museum of Natural History.

1. The Army recently inducted the supersonic surface-to-air missile Akash, capable of targeting aerial threats up to a range of 25 km. It is a medium range Surface to Air missile. It is India’s first indigenously designed, developed and produced air defence system missile.

2. Microsoft launched Edu-Cloud that will enhance digital learning and teaching in schools and higher education institutions in India. With Edu-Cloud, students will have access to digital content and free access to Office 365 from Microsoft on their Windows-powered tablets.

3. Government was forced to defer introduction of the real estate Bill again due to strong opposition. It became apparent that it would have to send it to a select committee of the Rajya Sabha.

4. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari introduced The National Waterways Bill 2015 in the Lok Sabha. The Bill proposes to convert 101 rivers across the country into waterways to promote it as a cheaper mode of transportation, as compared to roads and railways.

5. India and Iran recently signed an inter-Governmental Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding India’s participation in the development of the Chabahar Port in Iran.
