1. Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is likely to reject Parliament Standing Committee on Finance’s recommendation that the base year for national accounts be revised annually instead of every five years. Revising them annually is being seen as unfeasible.

2. The Union shipping ministry may soon register Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to work on enhanced port-rail connectivity. The 12 major ports and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL, an arm of the railways ministry) will pool resources for the formation.

3. Indian Coast Guard (ICG) held a security exercise, Theera Veeta, in the Arabian Sea. The exercise was intended to augment the preparedness of the security agencies in protecting the porous maritime borders of Kerala, Lakshadweep, Minicoy Islands and Mahe (part of Puducherry) from external attacks.

4. The CE20 cryogenic engine is being indigenously developed by ISRO to power the cryogenic stage of GSLV MkIII launch vehicle. Successful long duration hot test (635 seconds) of high thrust cryogenic engine (CE20) was carried out on April 28 at Isro propulsion complex in Tamil Nadu's Mahendragiri.

1. National Green Tribunal has again extended the stay on ban of 10-year-old diesel vehicles till May 18. The Supreme Court earlier had said that diesel vehicles are major source of pollution in the ambient air quality.

2. Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has said that it has ordered an FIR to be filed against the CEO and the directors of Internet shopping company Snapdeal for allegedly selling prescription drugs online.

3. Banks have firmed up the upper limit on withdrawals at micro automatic teller machines (ATMs) at Rs 10,000 as part of rules governing small transactions, especially under financial inclusion. They will levy an interchange fee of Rs 2 for withdrawal up to Rs 2,000 per transaction.

4. Scientist C N R Rao was conferred with Japan's highest civilian award for his contributions to science and Indo-Japanese science coperation. The Emperor of Japan conferred the country's highest award, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, on the Bharat Ratna.

5. Prannoy Roy, the Executive Co-chairman of NDTV, was on 30 April 2015 conferred with the Redink Lifetime Achievement Award 2015 at a function in Mumbai. The awards were presented by the Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu.
