1. Mandolin maestro U Srinivas passed away due to complications developed after his liver transplant. He was 45. Shrinivas, born in Andhra played with great Indian artists such as Hariprasad Chaurasia and Zakir Hussain.
2. President Barack Obama nominated Richard Rahul Verma as US ambassador to India ahead of his meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Verma, an Indian-American, served as assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs at the State Department in the Obama administration.
3. Lawrence J Ellison announced his retirement as chief executive of Oracle. Oracle is a company founded by Ellison in 1977 that has transformed the way businesses use technology.
4. Reserve Bank of India Executive Director P Vijaya Bhaskar asked banks to stay vigilant against smurfing and money muling. Smurfing is a way by which cash is broken into smaller deposits of money to defeat suspicion of money laundering. Money muling occurs when money launderers use someone else's bank account to deposit and transfer money.
5. Assam government launched an 'Angel Fund' to help first generation entrepreneurs of the state to start business start-ups. A maximum loan amount of Rs 5 lakh at 5 per cent interest per annum would be provided for setting up new micro enterprises.

1. PepsiCo Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Indra Nooyi has been ranked the third most powerful businesswoman by the Fortune magazine. ‘The most powerful women in business 2014’ list topped by IBM Chairman and CEO Ginni Rometty and General Motors CEO Mary Barra.
2. Concur Technologies, the US-based company is acquired by German enterprises software maker SAP for $7.3 billion. Concur technologies was co-founded by Indian origin siblings Sudhir Steven Singh and Rajiv Singh in 1993.
3. India and China have decided to resolve their long-standing border dispute according to the pact signed by the two governments in April 2005. Both sides have also decided to start talks on a civil nuclear agreement, to expand their civil nuclear energy programmes.
4. Ma Ying-jeou, The President of Taiwan presented the first Tang Prizes in Taiwan’s capital Taipei. The Tang Prize is treated as Asia's version of the Nobels. This award honours the outstanding contributions to the environment, human rights, medicine and Sinology.
5. The Board of Inquiry (BOI) conducted by Defence ministry recommended decommissioning of INS Sindhurakshak. It recommended that the submarine INS Sindhurakshak is not fit to sail again thus it should be decommissioned
