1. India ranked best for investment: A ranking of destinations for the attractiveness to foreign investors has placed India at the top among
110 countries. China has secured the 65th position and the U.S is at the 50th. In the 2014 index, India was at the sixth position and Hong
Kong was number one. This year India has been ranked as number one, best for investment .This index is called the “Base line profitability
index”.
2. US Supreme Court legalise same sex marriage: The U.S Supreme Court declared that same –sex couples had a right to marry anywhere in the
country, in a culmination of two decades of litigation over marriage and gay rights.
3. 140 smart class rooms for 140 Assembly constituencies in Kerala: The IT @ School programme is all set to introduce model smart class rooms
in the 140 Assembly constituencies in Kerala. Each of these class rooms will be built like a theatre with tiered seating arrangements and
video conferencing facilities.
4. Mata Amritanandamayi to address U.N conference: Mata Amritanandamayi ,Chancellor of Amrita University, will deliver the keynote address
during the coming conference at the United Nations on technology and sustainable development in July.
5. Sirisena dissolves Srilankan Parliament, polling on August 17: The seventh Parliament of Sri Lanka, which lasted a little more than five
years has been dissolved with immediate effect. The dissolution was ordered by President Sirisena, 10 months ahead of the completion of the
present House’s term.
6. Satnam Singh is the first India born basket ball player to be selected for playing in NBA of US: Satnam Singh whose height is 7 feet 2
inches has been selected to play in the NBA team called ”Dallas Mavericks”. This is the very first time an Indian born in India has been
selected to play in the NBA team.
7. Italy takes India to international arbitration over case of marines: Italy had initiated international arbitration proceedings in the case
of two of its marines facing trial in India for the 2012 killing of two fishermen. This move by the Italian Government follows failed direct
negotiations with the Indian Government.
8. SBI to provide incentive to its staff: SBI is looking at new ways to improve productivity and had decided to make some changes in the HR
policy. SBI is expected to provide incentives to its employees for referring home loans to the bank. Employees will be given gift cards worth
Rs,16,000 and gift cards to travel aboard.
