1. Kerala ropes in Steffi Graf to promote Ayurveda: Kerala Tourism has roped in Tennis legend Steffi Graf for endorsing its upcoming campaign
to promote Ayurveda.
2. The Union Government to erect memorial for Jayaprakash Narayan: A day ahead of the 40th anniversary of the Emergency , The Union Cabinet
took a decision to build a national memorial in the Chapra district of Bihar to honour Jayaprakash Narayan.
3. High Drama on High Seas: The Indian Navy and Coast Guard rescued 14 crew members of a distressed merchant vessel MV Coastal Pride that
later sank ,15km off the coast of Daman on 24th June. All 14 on board the cement carrier MV Coastal Pride were safely evacuated by
helicopters.
4. Bobby Jindal enters race for white house: Bobby Jindal is at present the Governor of Louisiana and he is of Indian origin. He has announced
that he will be contesting for the President’s post in his micro- blog site. The possibility of Bobby Jindal becoming the President ,experts
say is remote.
5. Australia to join China- led infra bank: Australia announced that it would join the new China- led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank(
AIIB) as a founding member, contributing about $930 million to the financial institution of which India will be the second largest share
holder.
6. Mauritius joins fight against black money : In a significant boost for the fight against black money, Mauritius has become a signatory to
the multilateral frame work that provides mutual administrative assistance on tax matters with India and other countries.
7. Two new IITs to open doors from August: IIT campuses at Tirupati and Palakkad will be operational from August first week, offering 240 new
seats in total. Now the students can opt for the two new IITs while filling up their choices.
8. Tiny island of 70,000 takes India to court : A year ago, a tiny island republic in the Pacific Ocean- Marshall Islands- with a population
of 70,000 made an impassioned plea to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) seeking initiation of proceedings against India for not
pursuing nuclear disarmament , but India is yet to file response.
9. Adani Group may abandon $ 16 billion Australian project : The Adani Group is likely to withdraw from the $16 billion ( Rs. 1,00,000 crore)
Australian coal mining project , touted as the world’s largest ,due to concerns over softening international coal prices, relentless attacks
by environmentalists and delay in regulatory clearances.
10. SBI to add 10 lakh card swipe machines : State Bank of India will install 10lakh payment card machines (POS ) across country which will
double the number of places where card payment is accepted. The bank is also launching a huge campaign to promote cash withdrawals up to
Rs.1000 at POS terminals ,which will reduce the pressure on ATMs.
