1. Indian-American Kumar P Barve of Democratic Party will run for US Congress in 2016 elections. He will contest on for the seat vacated by Congressman Chris Van Hollen of Republican Party. If elected he would be the fourth from the Indian–American community to be elected to the House of Representatives.
2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the first indigenously developed vaccine against rotavirus in New Delhi. The three-dose ROTAVAC vaccine was developed through a collaboration between India and the United States.
3. India is “intent on strengthening ties” with Sri Lanka. Mr. Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to make a visit to the neighbouring country in 24 years and he will commission a railway line in Talaimannar, inaugurate the cultural centre in Jaffna, and also hand over 20,000 homes that have been built by India in the Northern Province.
4. Centenary Commemoration of the First World War (1914-1918), in memory of the 1.5 million Indian soldiers who fought in the war, began with President Pranab Mukherjee laying a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti in India Gate.
5. Solar Impulse is claimed to be the world’s only solar-powered aircraft. It will make a stopover in Ahmedabad as a part of its maiden global journey from Abu Dhabi without a drop of fuel.

5. Ancient city of Nimrud in Iraq was in news as Islamic State (IS) militant group bulldozed the ancient city. Nimrud overlooking the Tigris River was founded in the 13th century BC and was considered the jewel of the Assyrian era.
