1. India is set to become the first country in the world to have biometric data and no duplication in the voters’ list after linking of Aadhaar card with voter identity card. Aadhar number will remove all allegations of duplication in the voters list and harassment to voters in changing their address.
2. Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) approved a framework for international financial centres (IFCs) aimed primarily at reversing the export of India’s financial markets. Sebi board allowed listing and trading of municipal bonds, also referred to as ‘muni’ bonds, for the first time to aid the government’s smart-city initiatives.
3. The government is working on a gas pooling proposal to revive Rs 60,000 crore worth of investments made in power plants languishing for want of fuel. The gas pooling will average out the price of costly imported LNG with domestically available gas to kick-start 14,000 Mw of stranded gas-based capacity.
4. Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) has released the final guidelines for the appointment of insurance agents. According to the new norms, an individual can act as an insurance agent for only one life insurer, one general insurer, one health insurer and one monoline insurer.
5. Anil Ambani’s Reliance Defence and Aerospace partners with SAAB of Sweden to bid for the ship-borne unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) programme of the Indian Navy, valued at Rs. 1,000 crore.
