1. Centre plans to fix a limit on the liability arising from road accidents that will provide relief to insurers facing heavy losses from third-party motor insurance. Third-party motor insurance coverage is mandatory by law and the premium is decided by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority.
2. India is ready to open the doors wider for Asean countries under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) pact being negotiated with 16 countries. India would cut tariffs on 70 per cent of all traded items with the 10 Asean (Association of South East Asian Nations) members; for the others it would make cuts on just 40 per cent of the tariff lines.
3. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras nominated a conservative lawmaker and former interior minister Pavlopoulos to be the country's next President. Tsipras wanted a unity candidate who was acceptable to all sides in Greek politics.
4. Finance ministry launched a new website for filing and processing of foreign direct investment (FDI) applications. The applicants will have to submit only a single copy of the application for records with the FIPB secretariat, instead of 15-18 copies that were required earlier.
5. Cabinet Committee on Security sanctioned the country's biggest naval project, the construction of seven stealth frigates for Rs 45,381 crore. The Project 17A follows the earlier version Project 17, in which MDL built three 5,600-tonne frigates: INS Shivalik, Satpura and Sahyadri.

1. Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Newdelhi signed four agreements, including one on ‘Peaceful uses of nuclear energy’. The nuclear agreement is the first one Srilanka signs with any country and it will facilitate cooperation in the transfer and exchange of knowledge and expertise, sharing of resources and training of personnel in peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
2. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is likely to come out with a new monetary policy framework in his Budget. The proposed agreement intends to change the formulation of the monetary policy structure and inflation targeting. Presently, monetary policy formulation is the preserve of the Reserve Bank of India.
3. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic was sworn in as the President of Croatia. She is Croatia’s first female President and overall fourth President since Croatia gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.
4. Centre is working on mandating 50 per cent reservation for women in the country’s urban local bodies. The move aims to promote their participation in urban policy making for the development of ‘engendered cities’.
5. Infosys will acquire US-based Panaya Inc, a provider of automation technology, for an enterprise value of $200 million. This is Infosys’ second-largest acquisition after it bought Lodestone Holding AG for $350 million in September 2012.
